Colleen Stan, often referred to as “the girl in the box,” endured a horrifying ordeal after being kidnapped by Cameron and Janice Hooker in 1977. While hitchhiking from Eugene, Oregon, to a friend’s house in California, she accepted a ride from the couple, believing it was safe because they had a baby with them. Unfortunately, Cameron Hooker abducted her and subjected her to severe physical and psychological torture for over seven years.

During her captivity, Colleen was often confined in a small, coffin-like box for up to 23 hours a day and was manipulated into believing that an organization called “The Company” would harm her and her family if she tried to escape. Her ordeal finally ended in 1984 when Janice Hooker helped her escape and testified against Cameron, leading to his conviction.

Colleen’s story has been widely publicized and has inspired numerous books, films, and documentaries. Her resilience and courage continue to be a source of inspiration for many.
