April Patreon Video: Kitty Genovese and The Bystander Effect
In March of 1964, Kitty Genovese was brutally attacked and murdered near her home in Queens, New York. Kitty’s murder contributed to the social psychological phenomenon now known as the bystander effect, where individuals are less likely to intervene in an emergency situation when others are present due to diffusion of responsibility. Kitty’s tragic death is often overlooked by this phenomenon, which in actuality built on false information.
